There are different types of Communication. The two main types are verbal and non-
verbal. Verbal is when one uses oral language to express oneself. Non-verbal is all other types of
communication, which can include posture, eye movements, body language, etc. It is normal
behavior for people to have a difference of opinions. How one expresses said differences in
views determines if it becomes an interpersonal conflict. Interpersonal conflict can happen in
both personal and professional relationships. Personal relationships include spouses, family, and
friends. Things that tend to cause interpersonal conflict in personal life can be when one raises
their voice, is aggressive with words, or is dismissive of the situation. Professional relationships
can include co-workers, bosses, or even patients. In the workplace, passive-aggressive
communication or clique behaviors can lead to interprofessional conflicts (Angelo, 2019, p. 23).
Non-verbal communication that can lead to interpersonal conflict includes posturing our body,
folding our arms across our bodies, or facial expressions.
